$12,000 NET SALES · 300 WORKER-HOURS$40.00

USD per labor-hour; matched period and operating scope.

01

Divide net sales by combined worker-hours

Choose one reporting period and operating scope. Divide net sales in USD by the summed hours of every included worker during that period. This descriptive revenue ratio does not subtract wages or product costs.

02

Count people-hours, not the clock on the wall

Two people working four hours each and one person working two hours contribute 10 worker-hours. At $1,200 in net sales, revenue per labor-hour is $120.00. A separate $12,000 / 300-hour period gives $40.00 per labor-hour.

03

Keep the reporting convention consistent

Match the sales dates, location and channel with the included worker-hours. Document the treatment of discounts, returns, paid breaks and salaried work. Do not substitute headcount or elapsed opening hours for combined hours.

04

Do not turn one ratio into a personnel decision

This calculation cannot establish profit, service quality, an employee's performance or an appropriate staffing level. Inputs allow up to $1,000,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000 hours. Positive outputs below $0.01 are labeled Less than $0.01; ordinary values display two decimals.

05

Separate traffic and basket questions

Use the retail conversion rate calculator to compare purchases with store visitors. Use the average order value calculator to examine sales per order. These different denominators help describe the same period without treating labor productivity as a causal explanation.

Questions, answered.

How do I calculate sales per labor hour?

Divide net sales by total worker-hours for the same reporting period and operating scope. The result is USD revenue per labor-hour, not wages or profit.

Are labor-hours the same as shift duration?

No. Add the hours contributed by every included worker. Two people working four hours each contribute eight worker-hours even though only four hours elapsed.

What happens with zero sales or zero hours?

Zero sales with positive hours gives $0.00 per labor-hour. Zero hours is invalid and produces no result. A positive ratio below one cent is labeled Less than $0.01 rather than displayed as zero.
