WORKING INPUTS

Follow one sequential first-pass route.

One matched sequential route and cohort. Reworked units are not first-pass successes. Stage product is modelled, not an audited clean-unit count.

STAGE YIELDS 97% · 94% · 91%82.9738%

0.97 × 0.94 × 0.91 = 0.829738; modelled first-pass loss is 17.0262%.

01

Multiply, rather than average

Convert each first-pass stage percentage to a fraction, multiply the fractions exactly and convert the result back to percent. Round yield and its exact complement independently half-up to four decimals; the two rounded displays may therefore sum to100.0001%. A positive yield strictly below0.0001% is labelled below that minimum; equality displays0.0001%.

02

Three strong stages still compound

At 97%, 94% and 91%, the modelled product is 82.9738%. Its complement is 17.0262%, not a count of scrapped units, a monetary loss or a staffing measure.

03

Match the route and first-pass definition

Use the same sequential route, cohort and reporting period. Exclude reworked, rerun, retested and repaired units from first-pass success. Stage marginals do not necessarily describe an observed all-stages clean cohort; branched routes and rework loops need a different model.

04

Keep quality money and labor separate

Measure recorded prevention, appraisal and failure costs separately with the cost of quality calculator; RTY alone cannot price rework. Use actual hours, wages and completed units in the labor cost per unit calculator rather than treating first-pass loss as paid labor lost.

Questions, answered.

Should I average the stage yields?

No. This model multiplies sequential first-pass fractions. An average answers a different question.

Does this count reworked units as first-pass success?

No. Use first-pass percentages excluding units diverted to rework, reruns, retests or repairs. This tool does not audit your underlying counts.

Does the result prove the actual clean-through fraction?

Not from arbitrary stage marginals alone. The displayed product is modelled; compatible conditional clean-flow stage rates are needed to interpret it as an observed cohort fraction.
