Weight every response, not every occupied bin
Use counts from one question with one five- or seven-point scale. Enter a whole response count, including zero, for every score. Multiply each score by its count, add those score-points and divide by the total responses. Keep the question, direction, period and channel consistent.
Keep one question and one scale together
Counts of 2, 1, 0, 3 and 4 produce 36 score-points across 10 responses: a mean of 3.60 on a five-point scale. Higher scores mean easier only when that direction was used in the original question.
Compare effort with separate outcome measures
Use the retention rate calculator for an observed matched customer cohort and the retail conversion rate calculator for matched store visits and transactions. A survey mean does not prove either outcome changed.
Read direction before interpreting a score
Read the response counts alongside the mean and scale direction. This tool does not turn a survey mean into a success percentage or a universal benchmark. It also cannot establish why effort changed or whether loyalty and retention improved.
